Key Features:
• 1.6 km of 750 mm Concrete Pressure Pipe on Baldwin Street (Highway 7/12) and Duffs Road, from Columbus Road to Duffs Road Zone 3 Reservoir.
• With Baldwin Street under MTO jurisdiction as part of the Highway 7/12 corridor, CFA carried out extensive liaison and negotiations on the Region’s behalf in order to demonstrate constructability and secure MTO approval.
Durham Region identified the need for a 750mm diameter feedermain to service both the existing and future development in the Brooklin Community in the Town of Whitby.
This project included the evaluation of alternative alignments, construction methods (e.g. tunnel vs open cut etc.) as well as potential impacts on a future road widening and existing utilities (hydro, gas and bell plant) and mitigative measures.
Traffic management and construction staging strategies were utilized to minimize traffic disruption along Highway 7/12, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) was employed to eliminate utility conflicts during construction.
Extensive liaison with other stakeholder groups and regulatory agencies included CLOCA for approvals for creek crossings, MOE for dewatering, utility companies for relocations and two Trans Canada Pipeline crossings.
Watermain construction was coordinated and staged with the new reservoir construction, that was on-going simultaneously as a separate project.
